the farmers wife

Although  I am not a farmers wife,  I am a proud happy fire wife. I still dream daily of the farm life I wish I had. I dream of the joy and simplicity we could have with our boys on the farm. How life could be different for us then the typical run here, run there life the suburb holds. I am comfortable here, don't get me wrong. I just feel part of me belongs there..on a farm. Which brings me to the project I am about to share with you.

My sister gifted me this book 4 months ago. A project we would do together. It is a book of letters from farm wives dating back to the 1920s. Their stories inspired 111 quilt blocks. After blocks and blocks are sewn you put it together creating yourself "The Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt"
The stories are truly wonderful. Like diving into their history.
We decided we would make 1 block a month, show and tell it at our monthly sewing club. Here is my first block
I picked the fabric line Moda, April showers. 15 pieces of yummy fabrics in great colors. Once this blanket of goodness is all put together it will be perfect for cuddles on the porch swing at the farm.
Until then....
I dream.

  1. I love the fabric you chose. Moda's print are always great.

As for being a Farmer's Wife. Just remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. I am not a farmer's wife but I live in a farming community. Farming is hard work. Pay isn't always so great and many farm families have to work else where and then come home and work. It isn't the simple life we think it is. It's a hard life. But it is a good life.

    1. Oh boy do I agree with you! Farmers work so hard! I want the land, the barn and the farm house. With a few hobby animals. Not the work of a farm. The simple farm. It all seems so peaceful. Thanks for stopping over, happy 4th!

    2. I understand what you are saying! I really hope that you are able to have that! I grew up in an old farmhouse outside a little Mayberry town, although my dad wasn't a farmer. I had beautiful wheat fields around me. It was quiet and peaceful. I never really understood how wonderful I had it as a child until I was older. I miss that. I don't miss the bugs or the snakes. I don't miss the dirt roads that would be so muddy in May that it was a challenge to get to town. I don't miss a school bus! I do miss the quiet, the toads in the road, being able to leave windows open at night without having people looking in, being outside in a gown, the list goes on. Life in my small town in nice, but rural life is great. Go for it!

      Happy 4th to you, too.

  4. It's gorgeous! Love this. I've been dreaming of a scrap quilt for years and have only been able to get as far as collection. Your farm dream is light inside you, a beautiful place to visit when we need a 'getaway'. Just think how much sweeter it will be when it finally falls into place. XO, friend.
